Public cloakrooms at Volksoper Wien
The public cloakrooms at Volksoper Wien were completely refurbished – a project requiring extensive experience with listed historic buildings. The result is a powerful space that makes a clear statement, carrying forward the character of the establishment while visually transforming the design.
In place of the former wall-to-wall counters, the space is now dominated by a series of freestanding units fashioned from natural stone and wood, their curved alignment in deliberate juxtaposition to the rounded frontage of the building. The pale dusky pink background reflects the colour of the famous main facade, forging an elegant link between interior and exterior.
Another signature element of the design concept are the new custom-made hanging lamps that lend extra depth and warmth to the space. The result is a carefully curated interplay of light, materials and form – understated, yet clear and precise.
In collaboration with Peter Weisz.
